Time and brain power soak

Since last Saturday I have to say that I feel like I have been cut off from the world a bit. Not that I have been isolated or gone anyplace, but with my car breaking again it seems that all of my free time has been spent stressing over what I am going to do to replace/fix it. All of the ordinary thoughts included, such as how much can I afford, what do I want, what is the best course of action, when do I want it by, how am I going to get time to go test drive vehicles since I work all day…etc…

Tonight I kind of realized that although I know I will continue to be stressing over this process until I figure it out, I need to try and not think about it so much. Maybe a good rule of thumb will be to try and not worry about it after the dealerships close, which locally is between 6 and 7 during the week. That way the rest of my evening can still be enjoyed. I am still hoping that if I buy, I can get a good deal on something I really like, something I fit well in and last but not least, something that I can fit all of my drums into along with Omega. My backup plan is that if I can’t find anything else, I am going to put a couple of contacts at our local dealers to work to see if they can get me a 2006-2007 PT Cruiser with the upgraded “turbo” engine and cruise control. In the meantime we’ll just see what happens.

I feel bad because I know Omega is absolutely sick of talking about cars and hearing me stressing over all of this, but she is awesome because she still listens anyways! (well at least she pretends to listen, which is all I need! *wink* Just kidding honey!)

On a side note, we went and had a dinner date on sunday evening over at the Whistling Bird in Gilbert. This was very nice because even though we go out and do stuff, we really never actually dated. At least not by the traditional standards of what “a date” is. Rather than dinner and a movie we would hop in my car and go driving around till late into the night or we would go to our favorite place to just sit and talk, the Buhl Pit, and spend hours watching the stars in the summer sky as we enjoyed each other’s company and usually great conversation. I say usually great conversations because there were many times when we would just sit and listen to the sounds of the lake or watch the northern minnesota sky, the whole time never saying a word. Simply sitting and sharing the moments.

So anyways, we went on our date sunday evening which was very nice. It was an extremely pleasant break from all of my car stress. They have a nice little place there at the Whistling Bird yet to me it has never lived up to all the hype about it. The food is good but not great and the atmosphere is pretty neat, which I believe is why most people think it is such a fantastic place. It is much different than any of our other dining establishments in the area, so it has the ability to provide you with a feeling that you really went somewhere special compared to what else is out there.

Anyhow, now that I have rambled for a while, it is time for me to get to bed.

Happy Thanksgiving

That’s right! It’s already turkey day!

In just a few short hours we will all be diving into a great meal, turkey and mashed potatoes and the whole 9 yards. We’ll be sitting around, visiting with family and for many we will be watching the all time hero of the Thanksgiving Holiday…….

John Madden.

He will no doubt be broadcasting one of the two games today, handing out his 900 legged turkey to the winning football team while he amazes the entire nation of football fans with his spot on announcing and brilliantly phrased statements of the obvious.

So to all of you out there who are getting ready for the feast, maybe a little football, and some good quality time with your families…..I wish you all a very, very special and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hunters Eve…

Well at least it is the eve of the upcoming deer season which opens up tomorrow morning at daylight.

I would think that something that is such a big event should have a proper “Eve” name of some sort attached to it. We have Christmas Eve and New Years Eve….so why not Big Buck Eve or Shooters Eve…..

Maybe more commonly it could be called….I Missed The Big One Eve….or maybe “Honestly, I was shooting at that big buck but this fawn must have stepped in front of it Eve”….or how about I didn’t even see a squirrel Eve.

No matter what you want to call it, tonight is the Eve of my favorite time of year, the much anticipated Northern Minnesota Whitetail Deer Season Opener.

I know, I know….I’ve talked a lot about that lately….and I will talk about it more as the season goes on. But what can I say other than that it is my blog so I can write what I want! haha

I made it through the week. At least the last couple days went by fairly quickly since I was on a pretty good selling streak at work, plus things were a bit hectic because my car was in the shop…..again….

For those of you that don’t know, I haven’t had my car for the whole month of October as there was a problem with the ignition switch or something. I just got that back on Monday of this week and when I went to go hang out with Dad, Caleb and Luke on Thursday evening it wouldn’t start again at first. So it went back into the shop today and I found out that on top of the ignition switch that went bad it needed a new battery…

Fun, fun…..

Oh well, it seems that all is well again with the old Daewoo and I am now all set for the season opener tomorrow morning.

Which means it’s off to bed for me…I always have trouble falling asleep on this night, but hopefully I am able to just sort of conk out with huge bucks dancing through my dreams.

I’ll keep you updated on how the season goes.

Wish me luck!

Start your day off right

This morning as I was finishing getting ready for work I recieved the ultimate suprise to start my day off right. A suprise that was so amazing that I could hardly contain my emotion. In fact, even now that suprise is still holding strong and it is now bedtime. I just hope it is still going strong tomorrow morning.

What is this great suprise that jump started my day?

That suprise was none other than to find a part of our roof leaking through the ceiling onto a book case. Upon further inspection by Omega, it was discovered that some of the items on the bookshelf appear to have been ruined. That is terrific.

Plus it has continued to rain all day long so it keeps on dripping.  Quick sidenote. I just saw a very good commercial for ETrade. I thought it was a new show promo or something. The theme was asking if you are getting robbed by your own bank, then head to eTrade where they will take care of you. You would have to see it to get the humor, but it was pretty funny.

Anyhow, Omega was kind enough to make the call to our landlord this morning. They said they would call the other landlord and figure out what they are going to do and then call her back. Well, as of bed time, 10 pm, we still have yet to hear back from them. So we have absolutely no idea what they are going to do about it or when it is going to be repaired.

It wasn’t quite the traditional bowl of oatmeal or your wheaties to start your day, but almost as good…..or something like that. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the best part of it all. Apparently all the rain we recieved during the day today was not enough and it is supposed to seem like hardly a drizzle compared to what is still coming overnight tonight and into tomorrow. Pray for a storm detour around the northland for now, otherwise Omega and I may end up having our very own swimming pool in what used to be our humble little library.

That hits the spot….

I know, I know…..

I haven’t upheld my promise yet to tell the story about the skunks, speedos and suprise swimming. I have been busy and just haven’t had much of a chance to write. I was hoping to get to that this past weekend, but with another stellar showing of Attaboy on both Friday and Saturday night in the Cook, MN area, I just never really got around to it. Well, it was a stellar showing except for the fact I was sick as all get out, a warm thank you goes out to my loving wife for being kind enough to share her cold with me ;). Oh, I can’t forget about my acrobatic drumming that took place on Saturday night either. Saturday was just a bizarre night.

Anyhow, I will still get to those items. I just wanted to share a “that hits the spot moment” that I feel coming on shortly. It will really hit the spot since we were fortunate enough to enjoy some crisp fall-like weather today! This is my favorite time of year and I am pumped to feel the weather changing, even if that means old man winter is close behind.

As for what is going to hit the spot…..that will be either a Caramel High Rise or whatever the minty flavored hot drink is at Caribou Coffee!

So what hits the spot for you on a crisp fall day?

Skunks, speedos and suprise swimmers abound

I won’t get into all the details right now, but so far this week down in Duluth has been filled with craziness. In fact it’s a craziness that I could have done without. Although it does give me a little something more to write about now.

I will leave you to try and figure out what some of the stories behind the title are and I will leave you with a sort of fun/crummy event that has happened.

Last night, Tuesday, when I arrived in Duluth I decided to do a little shopping to see if I could find some new dress shirts for work. Lets just say that I only found one shirt I liked so I bought it. I also bought 3 new pairs of dress pants and 2 new belts. I am pretty pumped because I like all of the clothes a lot, but I still am cringing when I think about how much money I spent.

Although to steal a totally sexist comment that is just being stereo-typical of women, which for the record I do not actually agree with….totally…

I got it all on sale and saved a good chunk of money.

My Apologies….

I want to apologize for not writing very much lately.

I had some grand ideas that while I was in training I would have all of this free time in the evenings to just write all evening. I have done some writing, none of which is intended for this site. Call it a little practice in writing some fiction, capturing some ideas, etc…

It seems that I was off in my assumptions about having so much time to write. Don’t get me wrong, I do have my evenings free. It is just that since I am sitting in a classroom all day long, when I get off of work for the day I have been spending more time outside of my hotel room. That includes at least 3 trips a week to my favorite store, Barnes and Noble.

Speaking of Barnes and Noble, last week while I was down there I glanced through this book that I thought looked very interesting. It is called “Imponderables”. Well, I had mentioned it to Omega and then she went and bought it for me when she came down and suprised me with a mid week visit! That was so awesome of her and I absolutely never saw it coming. In fact, just minutes before she was pulling in to the hotel I had been trying to call her and was starting to get a little mad and a lot worried because she hadn’t called yet after work and it was about a half hour after she was supposed to get off.

It was a great suprise!

Anyhow, back to “Imponderables”. It is basically a collection of wierd information that attempts to answer some of lifes biggest mysteries. Such as why do priests wear black, was there an actual “Dr. Pepper” and many other fun questions. I think this will be a lot of fun to share some of these with you here, so keep an eye out for some of those. For the record I am not going to just retype the book here. I will basically state the question and then do my best to summarize the answer, as some of the topics are more than a few pages long. I am also hoping that some of these will generate some discussion and ideas as to some more ideas for my little “Research Project” feature. I do still have the information that was suggested before and the next installment there will be in response to April’s question about the history of Vaseline.

As for right now though, it is bed time. I have to be up early tomorrow and work at the bank and then I will take off tomorrow afternoon for Duluth and another week of training. This week should go by pretty quickly though and I will have company on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Omega is going to come down and stay with me Wednesday to Thursday, coming home later in the evening Thursday night. It is her birthday on Thursday so it will be nice to have her down there with me!

Although, if you can all keep a secret, I still have no idea what I am going to get her for her birthday……I better get that figured out! But don’t tell her that I told you that, alright?….;)

If I get a chance I will give a little recap of a nice relaxing Labor Day weekend and what has been happening in regards to my training. Again I do apologize that I have been a little lax here on the site, but I promise that once training is finished it will get back to normal, if not better than normal!

Talk to you soon and hang in there with me for just a bit longer! Have a great week!
