Well, I have submitted another photograph to a magazine. This time I have entered the 4th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo contest. The image I have entered can be found on my flickr page under the title, “Snowy Monarch”. Or you can just click here to get to it, “Snowy Monarch”!
They first pick 50 finalists and they will notify the finalists by March 31, 2007. I guess I have a little bit of a wait, but if I get selected this is what I could win and the selection process –
“From these 50 finalists, 5 category winners and a grand prize winner will be selected. The entries of all winners and finalists will be published on the Smithsonian magazine Web site. The entries of the winners and selected finalists will be published in Smithsonian magazine during summer 2007.”
Category winners will be awarded $500. The grand prize winner will receive a four-day, three-night Smithsonian Journeys Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta weekend adventure for two from October 5-8, 2007 or the cash equivalent.
What a crazy couple of weeks. I had 11 days off from work, including weekends and the holidays, but I feel like I have been on the go about 1o times more than I am when I am working! Our hectic schedule included traveling to southern MN for Christmas weekend which was a lot of fun, yielded some great pictures of an ice storm they got the night we were driving there, and gave us a grand total of about 14 hours of driving. That wiped me out…my back just isn’t up to that stuff still. Then we came home only to spend the week packing and moving, unpacking and cleaning. Of course we had some nice weather during the week which would have been some great photo opportunities also, but alas Mom and Dad’s teachings of “work before play” won over.
Now that the New Years weekend is here we have been busy finishing the move and trying to visit with Omega’s family that have come up over the weekend as well. And to top it off, we missed out on a “White Christmas” but we have certainly recieved one heck of a “White New Years”!
Well I am off to enjoy a bunch of Lasagna! Happy New Year!
I have submitted another picture to JPG Mag for consideration and now I need a little help from you guys! Please head over there and vote, I really appreciate it!
Well, sometime in the next day or so I will be offline for a short while…maybe a few days to a week tops. We are in the process of moving and I will be moving my computer and desk and all of that to the new house. The internet should be ready to go by tomorrow or wednesday, but don’t fear…if I don’t update for a few days that is why. I haven’t abandoned you!
Talk to you more after the move is complete!
Well, we are leaving in about 5 minutes to head down to Omega’s parents for christmas so I will not be around on here most likely till next week sometime. I should hopefully have a whole bunch of new pictures from the weekend though as we will be down around the New Ulm area and there is a lot of new things to take pictures of, so stay tuned for that!
Have a Merry Christmas everyone, talk to you next week!
And don’t forget, GO SEE ROCKY BALBOA THIS WEEKEND! You will thank yourself afterwords!
Tonight Omega and I went to see the new Rocky movie, “Rocky Balboa”. I had heard some very mixed reviews on both extremes. Some said it was just horrible, totally unbelievable that this 50+ year old man is able to hang in the ring with a 20 something fighter, just retarded. Others said it was just fantastic, great story and very inspiring. I did not, however, hear any reviews that were just sort of ehh…it was ok, not bad but not great.
My verdict, absolutely fantastic! A must see. I thought it was a terrific story and the perfect cap to not only “Rocky’s” legacy, but in some ways to Sylvester Stallone’s career as well. Is it unbelievable to think that the old man Rocky can stand toe to toe, of course. In real life it would probably never happen, but isn’t that really what Rocky has always been about? The underdog that should never have a snowball’s chance at winning, working hard and coming back to achieve something so great all because he wanted it more than anyone else! This is going to sound kind of stupid, I know, but I think that there is a lesson there for everyone in life that if you want it bad enough and you work hard enough, you can reach the top of that mountain. It won’t be easy and there will be the ups and downs, after all, Rocky didn’t win every fight now did he. In fact according to this movie he had something in the neighborhood of 23 losses in his career. But the lesson is that he never gave up. He did well by others not because he felt he owed them but because it was the right thing to do.
Bottom line, this movie has me all fired up. Very inspiring and I say to you…..Make sure you see this movie!
I want to take a moment to apologize for the lack of new/interesting posts here on the site. It has and continues to be a very hectic December with work and the move and all of that. If you can bear with me for another couple of weeks we will have a whole bunch of stuff settled here and then I can get back to posting more often and with more interesting content!
